Renewables – ESDM Reg 10/2025 sets 443 GW target, coal ban by 2050 Indonesia's Energy Ministry has issued Regulation No. 10/2025 outlining the national energy transition roadmap to achieve net zero emissions by 2060. The plan targets 443 GW total installed capacity, with 41.5% from variable renewable sources: 1) solar: 24.5% (JSKY, ANJT); 2) wind: 16.6% (BREN); and 3) ocean: 0.3%. The remaining 58.5% will come from dispatchable sources: 4) hydro: 15.9% (KEEN, ARKO, ADRO); 5) geothermal: 5.1% (PGEO, MEDC, BREN); 6) biomass cofiring and CCS: 12.2%; 7) hydrogen-based gas: 5.7%; 8) nuclear: 2%; 9) bioenergy : 1.4%; 10) ammonia-fueled coal: 1.9%; and 11) and waste heat: 0.7%. To achieve the 2060 target, Indonesia will require an average additional power capacity of approximately 9.6 GW per year. The regulation also phases out coal-fired power plants (PLTU), banning new developments and capping operations of existing plants by 2050. To support clean energy integration, a national supergrid will be built gradually: Sumatra-Java (2028), Kalimantan-Java (2030), Sumbawa-Flores and Kalimantan-Sulawesi (2041), and Sumba-Sulawesi (2045).
