Automotive - Indonesian electric motorcycle industry revs up for exports The Indonesian electric motorcycle (emotor) industry is experiencing a surge in both domestic sales and export opportunities. Local manufacturers are no longer solely focused on the Indonesian market, but are increasingly setting their sights on international expansion. According to Budi Setiyadi, Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli), there has been a significant rise in export inquiries for domestically produced emotors in 2024. This trend is exemplified by Greentech Global Engineering, the manufacturer behind the Greentech brand, securing a new contract to export 10,000 electric motorcycles to Cambodia. Terang Dunia Internusa (UNTD), through its United E-Motor brand, has already established a presence in the Southeast Asian market. UNTD's management has set ambitious export targets, aiming to ship between 2,000 and 3,000 electric motorcycles in 2024. NFC Indonesia (NFCX), under the Volta brand, plans to enter the Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian markets in early 2025, while Wika Industri Manufaktur (WIMA) - producer of the Gesits emotor - has already achieved export success to various Southeast Asian countries, Africa, and Australia since 2022. Gesits recently partnered with Vivek Automobiles Pvt Ltd to export their electric motorcycles to Nepal and Illectra Motor Group (IMG), with its ALVA electric motorcycle, has begun its expansion journey into the Malaysian market.
