26 June 2025

Coal - Demand shifts from Indonesia China and India are cutting thermal coal imports from Indonesia, shifting to higher-calorific coal from other countries as falling global prices make premium coal more cost-efficient. I-Energy’s Vasudev Pamnani estimates 1M tons of high-calorie coal can replace 1.2–1.5M tons of Indonesian coal. Kpler analyst Zhiyuan Li adds Indonesian low-to-mid grade coal now competes with discounted Russian supply. Indonesia’s thermal coal exports dropped -12% YoY to 187M tons in 5M25. (Source : Reuters)
