PGEO – Improving geothermal ecosystems this year

15 March 2024

PGEO – Improving geothermal ecosystems this year Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGEO) carries out several strategies in improving geothermal ecosystems in the transition to the use of renewable energy this year. PGEO will accelerate geothermal development through new technology and business model optimization through geothermal power plants with slimmer capacity. It is expected that by implementing this strategy, the operations will be faster. PGEO will also develop secondary products, such as carbon credits and a pilot plant in Ulubelu green hydrogren. PGEO targets additional capacity to 727 MW this year and a total capacity of 1 GW in 2026. Note that, PGEO's capacity has reached 672 MW until the end of last year. The additional capacity of 55 MW this year will come from PLTP Lumut Balai Unit 2 which is scheduled to operate in 4Q24. Furthermore, PGEO is exploring geothermal development in Kenya which has obtained exploration activity agreements and in Turkiye which is in the middle of exploring operating fields process. PGEO allocates capex worth IDR8.52 tn this year. (Source : Kontan)
